The World of Makeup
Over the semester I have done quite a few blogs dealing with makeup and the current trends. So when thinking of an idea for my wild card paper makeup of course worked its way back into my brain. I wanted to take a deeper dive into the world of makeup and even some of my favorite personalities. Now I've stated before most people on campus don't really see my love for makeup because minimal effort is made for my appearance in class. However, I have the whole spread shape tape, false eyelashes, multiple eyeshadow palettes, lipsticks, etc. you name it. I'd also like to give myself some credit with my knowledge of makeup as i've done multiple girls makeup for senior pictures and other events.
Let me start off by introducing you to the basics of makeup and what you may find in any girls makeup bags these days. Typically you start off with a primer for you face, which prepares your skin to take the products you are about to apply. I then head in with one of my favorite products which is Tarte's Shape Tape Concealer. However, this brand faced a lot of backlash for their foundation they recently released that had a rather disappointed selection of color options for different skin types. Concealers are typically used to cover blemishes and to help lighten darken portions of your face, like under eye circles. Eyeshadow designs are all the rage these days whether it be a simple look using browns or a wild rainbow eye look, the eyes are the most important part of the look. Of course foundation is also applied which covers the whole face almost like a finishing touch on covering blemishes that you previously covered. Mascara to coat your lashes to add some volume and you can't forget about highlighting the 'key' features of your face like your cheekbones or the point of your nose. Now that you know some of the basics we can move onto trends around the globe.
The world of makeup revolves around one thing creativity. Makeup artist truly create art but instead of canvases they do their work on humans. A trend that keeps gaining more and more popularity is eyeshadow art. Instead of basic eyeshadow looks artists are painting flowers, waves, and even characters to tie their looks together. James Charles who I have mentioned in multiple blogs, as I am a massive fan is what you could say a expert in the category of eyeshadow art. Charles has 16.1 million followers on Instagram and his net worth is estimated at $12 million currently. His looks take up to 5 hours of work in front of a mirror sometimes spending almost 3 hours completing just one eyes art. Sometimes when doing eye shadow art artist will use paints to help them get their desired looks not fully relying on makeup to get the job done. However, some artist like James use only makeup like liquid eyeliner which have the same consistency as some paints to do their looks.
Now lets go over to Mexico where Jose LavieDunPrince is doing looks and eyeshadow trends that are similar to what James Charles does. Although, he does not have as many followers as some makeup artists have 226 thousand followers his art shines throughout the makeup community. His looks are different when compared to other artists as his art isn't only eye looks but rather whole faces covered in makeup product. He does abstract art pieces but has also done pieces resembling famous characters like Maleficent and Ursula both disney evil villains. When I look at his work sometimes I have to do a double take as his precision and skill is so impressive to the point it doesn't even look real. The trend of eyeshadow art is sweeping the globe with an impressive showing of talents female and male doing extraordinary work.
Next up I want to travel to the Netherlands where artist Nikkie de Jager is doing crazy designs of her own. She has an impressive 12.1 million followers on Instagram and has worked with Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, etc. She also has worked with Maybelline for a makeup campaign and there are rumors she is working on her own personal makeup line. She does some calmer looks compared to the ones I've previously discussed but also has quite the artistic imagination. She has 11.1 million subscribers on her Youtube channel where she posts tutorials on how she does her looks. I've seen her work on multiple occasions and it's apparent that the world of makeup is an art form. She has also been a guest judge on RuPaul's Drag Race and has since gained more followers. Recently one of her new videos may be one of the best things i've ever seen. She does her everyday makeup routine but instead of her saying what she's doing she has the one and only Snoop Dogg narrating her makeup steps, of course he's a little under the influence but is one of the best things i've ever seen. Now the world of makeup isn't for everyone some people aren't even aware that makeup has become so advanced. Rather than just being done for beauty techniques but instead for as an art piece. I love how just like the world of technology makeup trends are changing every day and evolving to match popular ideas. Next time your'e on Instagram I highly recommend checking out these artists and maybe learning a little more about the work behind it.
